Our delight at the kingfisher's dart, an iridescent blur of blue, is a minnow's dread as that beak, a third of the bird's length, is designed to slice silently through water.  Nature in both glory and gore.  Weight 40g.  Wingspan 25cm.  Lives 15 years.  This is a male; females have an orange lower beak.
